Ding ding ding! Round one! As the Hornet and the Trax circle each other and plan their attack, we’ve noticed their difference in performance strategy. Let’s see how things play out.
Out the gate, the Dodge Hornet uppercuts the Chevy Trax with its two energetic powertrains. Drivers who choose the GT or the GT PLUS trims will garner the strength and speed of the 2.0L Hurricane Turbo engine, generating 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. With this engine under the hood, the Hornet earns the title of Fastest CUV in its segment.*
The Hornet R/T and R/T PLUS trims take an electrifying approach, making the crowd go wild. These plug-in hybrid models produce 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. When the Chevy Trax dishes some blows, the Hornet’s class-exclusive PowerShot feature will help you dodge the Chevy’s advances by boosting horsepower up to 30 ponies for up to 15 seconds.
The Trax is more submissive in the ring with its 1.2L turbo engine that garners 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. These timid figures may have you running out of gas when you need it most.
The Dodge Hornet will help you float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. It has standard all-wheel drive, allowing you to feel stable on your feet even on the bumpiest routes to knock out the competition. Its powertrain is paired with a 9-speed transmission, so you can get up to speed optimally and efficiently, helping you strike at the perfect time.
Once again, the Chevy Trax takes a gentler approach when circling its competitor. It has front-wheel drive, which will help this model’s longevity. However, its 6-speed transmission may not land the most dynamic blow.
Round two is all about protection. All fighters are trained to protect pivotal parts of their body, like their heads. The same goes for the Hornet and the Trax. Which model’s defense tactics will be more beneficial in this showdown?
During every round in the ring, the Hornet and the Trax deploy their safety systems, which include brand-specific versions of:
- Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
- Forward Collision Warning with Full Stop
- LaneSense® with Lane Keep Assist
To defend against out-of-nowhere jabs, uppercuts, and side punches, each vehicle has Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert features. Even so, the Dodge has the upper hand because this feature is standard on the Hornet and available on the Trax.
After minutes of dodging blows, taking hits, and dancing around the ring, the Hornet and the Trax appear exhausted. But the Dodge has four secrets up its sleeves to give it a last push of momentum to win the round:
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Intelligent Speed Assist
- Drowsy Driver Detection
- Active Drive Assist
These helpful standard and available features can step in at any moment to provide round-winning information, just like the coach in your corner. They also can step in and partially take over driving controls or alert you to take a break so you can finish strong.
It’s the last and final round. The newcomer, the Dodge Hornet, has proved worthy via its performance and safety. Will the veteran Chevy Trax keep it together long enough to win this round for the comeback, or will the Hornet take the clean sweep? Let’s find out.
Being able to see and predict your competitor’s next move is vital. For this reason, Dodge has equipped the Hornet with a 12-inch Driver Information Digital Cluster Display. This reconfigurable screen allows you to pick the details you need most, like navigation, fuel economy, phone alerts, or performance specs. This display is paired with a 10.25-inch color touchscreen that’s responsive, customizable, and angled toward the driver.
The Chevy Trax falls short with its 3.5-inch Driver Information Center and 8-inch HD color touchscreen. With the Dodge Hornet, you can keep your eyes on the prize.
The Dodge Hornet is ready to deliver its final blow, and it will make the crowd roar. The Hornet’s available Harman Kardon® Premium Audio System has 14 crisp speakers that just may give the crowd a run for its money. Almost. On the other hand, the Chevy Trax offers up to six total speakers.
When it’s time to walk out to the ring, the Dodge Hornet’s advanced sound system will blast your walk-up song, helping you get pumped. The Chevy Trax’s offering will get drowned out by the Hornet’s fans’ excited cries.
Ding ding ding! As this competition ends, there’s only one thing left to do: crown the winner. After three brutal rounds, the Dodge Hornet has emerged victorious with a clean sweep! The Chevy Trax was no match for the Hornet’s raw power, intuitive safety, and premium technology.
